City V Accrington Stanley: City make home advantage count.

Hull City picked up a big three points as they beat Accrington Stanley 3-0 at the KCOM Stadium.

City made a bright start to the game and looked threatening in the 4th minute when Greg Docherty's through ball found Mallik Wilks who was tackled well by the Accrington defence. Wilks put an effort over the bar in the 7th minute after connecting with a fine ball from George Honeyman.

The Tigers came close again in the 19th minute as George Long's kick found Keane Lewis-Potter but he was stopped in his tracks by Accrington's defence. City eventually took the lead in the 37th minute as some fine footwork from Keane Lewis-Potter saw him dance around the Accrington defence and he laid the ball off to Mallik Wilks who fired home to get his 9th league goal of the season.

The Tigers started the second half well and had an opportunity to double their lead when George Honeyman put an effort over the bar after he was picked out by a Gavin Whyte cross. City had another chance soon after this as Jacob Greaves saw his effort go wide.

City doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Gavin Whyte got his first goal for the club as he was in the right place at the right time to slot home a rebound after Mallik Wilks saw his shot saved by Accrington goalkeeper Nathan Baxter.

Dan Crowley came on to make his debut for the Tigers in the 66th minute as part of a double substitution with him replacing Gavin Whyte whilst Josh Magennis replaced Keane Lewis-Potter.

City were then awarded a penalty after Cameron Burgess brought Jacob Greaves down inside the Accrington box. Burgess subsequently received his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card and Josh Magennis converted the penalty in the 67th minute to make it 3-0.

The Tigers almost had a fourth goal a few minutes later when Dan Crowley was about to shoot but he was prevented from doing so by the Accrington defence.

Jordan Flores made his City debut as he came on to replace Richie Smallwood in the 77th minute whilst Regan Slater also came off the bench to take the place of George Honeyman. City continued to threaten late on and nearly extended their lead in the 83rd minute as Dan Crowley put his effort wide after he was found by a pass from Callum Elder.

The Tigers came came close again through Mallik Wilks when he put a shot over the bar after some good attacking build up play from Dan Crowley, Josh Emmanuel and Lewie Coyle.

City have gone back to the top of the League One table after this win. The Tigers are level on points with 2nd placed Lincoln City and the Imps have a game in hand as their match against Gillingham was postponed.

City are also just one point clear of 3rd placed Portsmouth who picked up three points by beating AFC Wimbledon 4-0. The Tigers face Pompey on Saturday at Fratton Park in what's now set to be a very big game.
