Blackpool made a bright start to the first half and forced City to make some good defensive clearances. City then began to work themselves into the game and they had an opportunity in the 11th minute through debutant Gavin Whyte as his shot was comfortably saved by Blackpool goalkeeper Chris Maxwell.

The Tigers came close again in the 16th minute when Whyte's attempted pass to Josh Magennis was cut out by Chris Maxwell. The Seasiders created a half chance in the 20th minute when Sullay Kaikai's effort hit the side netting.

Mallik Wilks should have given City the lead in the 28th minute as he put his effort wide after he received the ball from a George Honeyman pass. Blackpool had another opportunity in the 30th minute through Grant Ward as he had a speculative effort from distance which went wide.

The Seasiders threatened once again in the 39th minute as Ollie Turton had a shot which hit the side netting. The Tigers had a half chance before the break courtesy of a Jacob Greaves header which went wide as he got on the end of a Callum Elder free kick.

Blackpool threatened early on in the second half from a corner which led to City skipper Richie Smallwood clearing the ball off the line.

City took the lead in the 51st minute when Mallik Wilks secured his 8th league goal of the season with a fine finish when he latched onto a lay off from Josh Magennis after some great build up play from George Honeyman and Gavin Whyte.

City could have doubled their lead in the 64th minute as Jacob Greaves came close to connecting with George Honeyman's free kick which was delivered into the Blackpool box. Keane Lewis-Potter made another appearance off the bench as he came on to replace Josh Magennis in the 73rd minute. Lewis-Potter almost made an instant impact in the 76th minute as his free kick hit the crossbar.

The Tigers were reduced to ten men in the 78th minute when Reece Burke received a straight red after he brought Ben Woodburn down as he advanced towards the City box. Blackpool came close to equalising from the resulting free kick which Gary Madine put over the bar.

The Seasiders did get themselves back on level terms in the 81st minute as Jerry Yates slotted home after a scramble inside the City box from a corner.

City are now three points adrift of league leaders Lincoln City after this draw and they've both played 21 league games as Lincoln's game at Shrewsbury Town was postponed. The Tigers are also just one point clear of 3rd placed Portsmouth after they won at Fleetwood Town and Pompey also have a game in hand.
