City V Bristol Rovers: Three on the bounce for City.

Hull City picked up a third successive league win and a third clean sheet in a row as they beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 at the KCOM Stadium.

One change was made from the team that started Tuesday night's win against Rochdale as Keane Lewis-Potter dropped to the bench with Josh Magennis coming back into the starting 11 after an injury. There was also a place on the bench for youngster Andy Smith.


City put in a good first half performance which saw them take a one goal lead into the half time break.


The Tigers had an early opportunity in the 4th minute when Josh Magennis saw his header go wide. Gavin Whyte had a shot cleared away by the Bristol Rovers defence in the 18th minute whilst Alfie Jones saw his effort blocked by Alfie Kilgour in the 27th minute.


City took the lead in the 32nd minute through Gavin Whyte's 2nd league goal of the season as he fired his volley home after he was picked out by a Mallik Wilks cross.

Mallik Wilks almost doubled City's lead in the 43rd minute as he put an effort wide.

Bristol Rovers had a good chance to equalise in the 50th minute as an Alex Rodman cross found Brandon Hanlan who was denied by City goalkeeper Matt Ingram.


City doubled their advantage in the 60th minute when George Honeyman ran down the right and into the Bristol Rovers box and then passed the ball across to Gavin Whyte who slotted home to bag his second goal of the game and his 3rd league goal of the campaign.


The visitors created a chance in the 74th minute from a corner as Alfie Kilgour put a header wide. Greg Docherty had an effort blocked in the 88th minute by Ed Upson after Tom Eaves had laid the ball off to the Scotsman.

Matt Ingram produced a good save late on to prevent Jonah Ayunga from pulling a goal back for Bristol Rovers.


City have returned to the top of the League One table after this victory which was coupled with Peterborough United losing 2-1 at Burton Albion. The Tigers face Peterborough in their next league game on Tuesday night which has been set up nicely by today's results.
