Hull City picked up a very important three points as they beat Burton Albion 2-0.

A very familiar face in Burton's starting 11 was former Hull City player Stephen Quinn. Quinn made 97 appearances for the Tigers and scored in the 5-3 win against Sheffield United in the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup back in 2014. He was also famously part of City's starting 11 in the 2014 FA Cup Final.

He would have undoubtedly received a very good reception from the City fans had spectators been allowed in the ground.

City had a frustrating first half as they failed to break down a stubborn Burton defence. City could have taken the lead in the 8th minute when Jacob Greaves put a header wide. The Tigers had another chance in the 9th minute as Mallik Wilks fired his 25 yard effort just wide of the mark.

Burton were reduced to ten men in the 19th minute when Sam Hughes received a second yellow card after he brought Mallik Wilks down. City nearly capitalised on their one man advantage almost immediately as Burton goalkeeper Ben Garratt produced a good save to prevent Jacob Greaves from putting his header into the back of the net.

Garratt made another save in the 23rd minute to deny Mallik Wilks. City then had an opportunity in the 40th minute when James Scott put his shot over the bar.

Mallik Wilks had another chance in the 44th minute but he was denied once again by Ben Garrett in the Burton goal.

Grant McCann made a double substitution at the beginning of the second half as Tom Eaves and Hakeeb Adelakun came on to replace James Scott and Thomas Mayer.

Adelakun was booked for simulation in the 60th minute as City had a penalty appeal turned down by the referee.

City finally took the lead in the 62nd minute when Mallik Wilks fired home to bag his fifth league goal of the season after the ball broke to him from a George Honeyman free kick.

The Tigers should have doubled their lead in the 65th minute when Hakeeb Adelakun put his effort over the bar. They had another good chance in the 82nd minute but Tom Eaves could only hit his shot straight at Ben Garratt.

City did get a second goal in the 88th minute as Hakeeb Adelakun's effort went into the bottom right corner of the net to seal the win.

City are now in 2nd place after this victory and are a point adrift of Peterborough United who occupy top spot and lost 2-0 at Crewe Alexandra. The Tigers also have a game in hand on Peterborough which they will need to take full advantage of.
