Alfie Jones put a header over the bar in the 5th minute whilst Mallik Wilks saw his effort comfortably saved by Charlton goalkeeper, and former City loanee, Ben Amos in the 12th minute.

The Tigers took the lead in the 18th minute through an excellent attacking move as Jacob Greaves picked out Mallik Wilks with a great pass and Wilks subsequently found Hakeeb Adelakun inside the Charlton box who tapped home to bag his 3rd league goal of the season.

City could have doubled their lead a couple of minutes later when Tom Eaves had a header which didn't particularly trouble Ben Amos. George Honeyman then had a shot in the 40th minute which went wide. Charlton produced a dangerous chance in the 42nd minute courtesy of a Jake Forster-Caskey free kick which had to be well saved by City goalkeeper George Long.

City had a big opportunity just before half time which fell to Tom Eaves who fired his effort over the bar. Charlton were reduced to ten men in the 63rd minute when Darren Pratley received a straight red.

City capitalised on their one man advantage and doubled their lead in the 76th minute thanks to Greg Docherty's 2nd league goal of the season as he fired home after he latched onto a clever back heel by George Honeyman after Mallik Wilks met a cross from substitute Keane Lewis-Potter and saw his header come back off the post.

The Tigers nearly had a third goal in the 82nd minute when Brandon Fleming came close to scoring with a free kick. City have moved back into the top two after this win and are now four points behind 1st placed Lincoln City. The Tigers also have a game in hand on the Imps.
