City V Oxford: Five in a row for the Tiger's.

Hull City picked up a fifth successive league win as they beat Oxford United 2-0 at the KCOM Stadium.

An unchanged starting 11 was picked by Grant McCann for this game after the 1-3 win at promotion rivals Peterborough United on Tuesday night. Josh Magennis returned to the bench after recovering from an injury.

Both sides had chances in the first half and it was City that took a one goal lead. Oxford had a very early chance inside the 1st minute of the game as Matt Ingram dealt with an effort from Dan Agyei.

A few minutes later, City thought they should have had a penalty when Keane Lewis-Potter was brought down in the Oxford box by Jack Stevens but the former was deemed to be offside by the assistant referee.

The visitors presented another threat to the City goal in the 15th through Olamide Shadipo's shot which went straight at Matt Ingram. The Tigers came close to going in front in the 18th minute as Keane Lewis-Potter had an effort blocked by Jamie Hanson.

City did take the lead in the 22nd minute thanks to the work of two Hull lads when Lewie Coyle's long pass picked out Keane Lewis-Potter on the left wing who then ran into the Oxford box and cut inside before placing his shot into the back of the net to bag his 8th league goal of the season.

Oxford nearly provided an immediate response in the 24th minute as Cameron Brannagn fired his shot over the bar after Mark Sykes had his original effort saved by Matt Ingram.

Mallik Wilks looked to double City's lead in the 27th minute with an effort from 25 yards out which was comfortably saved by Jack Stevens.

Oxford came close to equalising in the 33rd minute as Josh Ruffels got on the end of an Anthony Forde cross and directed a header towards the City goal which was well saved by Matt Ingram.

Keane Lewis-Potter was very unlucky not to get his second goal of the game a couple of minutes before half time as his long range effort went just over the bar. Gavin Whyte almost grabbed a goal against his former club in the 57th minute when his deflected effort was saved by Jack Stevens.

City had another opportunity to double their lead in the 63rd minute as Mallik Wilks was played through by Gavin Whyte and he rounded Jack Stevens but the angle was against him as he was unable to put his effort goalbound.

The Tigers doubled their lead in the 71st minute thanks to Keane Lewis-Potter's second goal of the game as his effort deflected off Rob Atkinson and left Jack Stevens stranded in the Oxford goal.

There was an injury concern for City in the 79th minute when skipper Lewie Coyle went down and needed immediate treatment from the medical team. After some lengthy treatment, Coyle was taken off and replaced by Josh Emmanuel.

Oxford had a late opportunity when Brandon Barker's cross found Dan Agyei inside the City box who had his effort saved by Matt Ingram.

City had the chance to extend their lead deep into added time when Mallik Wilks put too much on his pass to Josh Magennis with the latter seeing his effort blocked by Cameron Brannagan.

The Tigers have gone seven points clear of 3rd placed Lincoln City as the Imps lost 1-2 against Rochdale. City don't have a game in midweek as they travel to Shrewsbury Town next Saturday.
