Hull City lost for the third successive time in the league as they were defeated 2-0 by Portsmouth.

Portsmouth took the lead in the 6th minute through an own goal from Jacob Greaves as the ball came off his head and went into the back of the net from a corner delivered into the City box by Cameron Pring.

City had an opportunity to equalise in the 10th minute when Josh Emmanuel's cut back found Mallik Wilks inside the Portsmouth box and he put his shot wide. The visitors saw more of the ball and showed some good build up play but they didn't test City goalkeeper Matt Ingram.

The Tigers presented some danger for Portsmouth goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray to deal with in the 30th minute as he tipped a deflected Callum Elder cross over the bar. City created a couple of half chances towards the end of the first half.

Firstly, Mallik Wilks headed wide from a Callum Elder cross and then James Scott put a header wide after getting on the end of a Regan Slater corner. Grant McCann made a change at half time as Keane Lewis-Potter was brought on to replace James Scott.

City made a bright start to the second half but the visitors doubled their lead in the 55th minute courtesy of a Josh Magennis own goal. Regan Slater had the first shot on target for either side as his effort was tipped away from danger by Craig MacGillivray.

Josh Magennis almost pulled a goal back for City in the 85th minute when his header came back off the crossbar. City have dropped to 2nd place in the League One table and Portsmouth are now in 1st place.

The Tigers could end the weekend in 3rd place if Lincoln City win their game at Northampton Town on Saturday.
