Hull City had an afternoon to forget as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Shrewsbury Town.

City produced an opportunity in the 8th minute as Josh Emmanuel's effort drifted just wide of the mark. Shrewsbury had a chance in the 13 12th minute through a Sean Goss free kick which went straight at City goalkeeper Matt Ingram.

Ingram had to react well to tip Ollie Norburn's deflected shot wide in the 17th minute. The visitors threatened again in the 18th minute when Charlie Daniels saw his strike go wide. Daniels subsequently put Shrewsbury in front in the 27th minute with a smart finish as he lobbed the ball over Matt Ingram inside the City box.

City carved out a half chance a few minutes before half time as Jacob Greaves headed wide. The Tigers could have been back on level terms in the 56th minute when Greg Docherty's volley flew over the bar.

City had an excellent chance to equalise late on but George Honeyman failed to make his effort count. This defeat leaves City three points clear of 3rd placed Portsmouth who won 2-0 at Ipswich Town.

Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic also picked up three points and they sit in 4th place and 5th place respectively in the League One table.
