After two successive draws, Hull City returned to winning ways as they beat Crewe Alexandra 1-2 at Gresty Road.

Grant McCann stuck with the same 11 players that started the 1-1 draw against Gillingham last Saturday. Josh Magennis and Gavin Whyte both returned from international duty with Northern Ireland to have places on the bench.
Neither side were able to make the breakthrough in the first half as it was a very even contest. Both sides created opportunities, but it was Crewe who looked the most likely to take the lead.

The first clear cut opportunity came in the 4th minute as a Harry Pickering cross picked out Owen Dale who had a header well saved by Matt Ingram. It was City's turn to show some attacking intent in the 11th minute when Keane Lewis-Potter rounded Will Jaaskelainen and put an effort towards goal which was cleared away by Olly Lancashire.
Owen Dale threatened once again as he fired an effort wide in the 19th minute. A penalty appeal from the City camp was turned down by the referee in the 20th minute after Mallik Wilks went down in the Crewe box after a challenge from Harry Pickering.
Callum Ainley, Ryan Wintle and Owen Dale all had long range efforts for Crewe with the latter having a shot from 20 yards out which Matt Ingram was able to deal with. Keane Lewis-Potter fired a long range effort wide in the 33rd minute.
As half time approached, the hosts carved out a half chance as Omar Beckles met a Harry Pickering free kick and put a header straight at Matt Ingram.
HT: 0-0
The beginning of the second half brought a second penalty appeal for City as George Honeyman was seemingly brought down. This appeal was rebuffed by the referee.
A couple of minutes later, Lewie Coyle's cross from the right wing found Tom Eaves who directed a header straight at Will Jaaskelainen. Matt Ingram was called into action in the 49th minute as he did well to save Charlie Kirk's effort.
It was clear that everything Crewe did attacking wise came through the hard work of Owen Dale. Dale showed off some great footwork which led to him putting a shot over the bar in the 56th minute.
The deadlock was broken in the 66th minute when Chris Porter converted a penalty to give Crewe the lead. The penalty was awarded for handball from a City defender. There was almost an instant response from the Tigers in the 69th minute when George Honeyman's effort was tipped away superbly by Will Jaaskelainen.
More penalty drama was to come as City were given a penalty of their own when Callum Elder was tripped in the Crewe box. Substitute Josh Magennis stepped up and comfortably dispatched the penalty to level things up with his 12th league goal of the season.
Olly Lancashire saw a header go over the bar in the 75th minute as Crewe looked to regain their lead.
Meanwhile, City almost took the lead in the 80th minute when Dan Crowley's effort was cleared off the line. Both sides piled everything into their respective search for a winning goal. This was epitomised by Donorvan Daniels who played a one two with Owen Dale and then struck an effort towards goal which was well blocked by Jacob Greaves.
A winner was found in stoppage time as Mallik Wilks bagged his 18th league goal of the season to earn City some much needed three points.

All of the top three including the Tigers picked up three points as Peterborough United won 0-1 at Fleetwood Town and Sunderland beat Oxford United 3-1. The Easter weekend action continues on Monday when City welcome Northampton Town to the KCOM Stadium.
