Doncaster Rovers V City: An incredible game turned to heartbreak.

Hull City let a two goal lead slip as they drew 3-3 against Doncaster Rovers.

It was an unchanged lineup for the Tigers as Grant McCann picked the same 11 players that started the 0-5 win at Wigan Athletic in midweek. There was a change on the substitutes bench as Gavin Whyte returned after injury.

It was a good first half overall from City as they went into half time with a two goal lead. Doncaster threatened in the first few minutes as the Tigers were forced to defend well in order to repel any threat to their goal.

City took the lead in the 19th minute thanks to a goal from former Doncaster loanee Mallik Wilks as he got on the end of a Callum Elder free kick and bagged his 13th league goal of the season.

Doncaster had a chance in the 22nd minute which fell to Josh Sims as his deflected shot caused a big problem for City goalkeeper Matt Ingram but the ball just avoided going over the line.

The Tigers doubled their lead in the 24th minute as Mallik Wilks got his second goal of the game and took his tally up to 14 league goals so far this season when he slotted home from a terrific Greg Docherty cross into the Doncaster box.

City almost gave themselves a three goal lead in the 32nd minute through a deflected effort from Josh Magennis which was well claimed by Doncaster goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe.

Doncaster reduced the arrears in the 33rd minute courtesy of a strike from Reece James as the ball was laid off to him by Taylor Richards.

Greg Docherty nearly gave the Tigers an immediate response to this setback in the 36th minute with a volleyed effort which was cleared off the line by the Doncaster defence.

City restored their two goal cushion in the 38th minute when Jacob Greaves secured his first senior goal as he headed home from a George Honeyman corner.

Mallik Wills had the chance to secure a hat trick for the second time this week as he put his half volley over the bar in the 53rd minute.

The Tigers then had a massive opportunity to kill the game off a few minutes later as an attempted clearance by Ellery Balcombe fell to Keane Lewis-Potter whose chipped effort hit the post.

Doncaster were awarded a penalty in the 67th minute when Josh Sims went down in the City box. Omar Bogle subsequently dispatched the penalty to pull a goal back for Doncaster.

There was a very long delay towards the end of the game when George Honeyman received lengthy treatment and subsequently had to go off which left City with ten men. Doncaster took full advantage of this and equalised in the 12th minute of stoppage time through a well taken free kick from James Coppinger.

City now sit in 3rd place in the League One table after this result. They're three points adrift of 1st placed Lincoln City and two points behind 2nd placed Peterborough United and both these sides have two games in hand on the Tigers.
