Matthew Sorinola had an effort for MK Dons in the 42nd minute which was off target. Meanwhile, Hakeeb Adelakun had another half chance for the Tigers in the 44th minute which sailed over the bar.

The hosts threatened in the 53rd minute as Reece Burke made an important tackle to halt Cameron Jerome's run. City increased their lead in the 76th minute when two subs combined as James Scott's header went into the back of the net off the post as he latched onto a Tom Eaves header.

The Tigers nearly added a fourth goal straight away as James Scott's attempted pass to Tom Eaves was intercepted by the MK Dons defence. The hosts attempted to pull a goal back as the game drew to a close. Matthew Sorinola had another chance in the 89th minute which was saved by Matt Ingram.

City are now top of League One after this win and are two points clear of 3rd placed Ipswich Town. The Tigers also have one game in hand on the sides below them.
