Peterborough United V City: A massive win away to promotion rivals.

Hull City made good on their promotion hopes as they secured a massive three points in a 3-1 away win against fellow promotion hopefuls, Peterborough United.

Grant McCann made one change to the Hull City starting XI from their 2-0 victory at home to Bristol Rovers, Keane Lewis-Potter returned to the set up with Josh Magennis dropping to the bench. City had a scare early on in the second minute as Peterbrough could well have taken the lead. Joe Ward flashed the ball across the face of goal, City's defence able to avert the danger. The resulting corner was then cleared of the line by the City defence. Three minute's later City were awarded dangerous free-kick as Greg Docherty was brought down by Siriki Dembele. The resulting free-kick from George Honeyman was dealt with by the Peterborough defence. Eight minute's in and a major setback for the City promotion hopes as Reece Brown put the host's one-nil ahead, comfortably slotting the ball past Matt Ingram. Peterbrough almost made it two nil, four minutes later as Joe Wards fizzing strike was parried by Matt Ingram whom then managed to avery the danger.

Twenty minute's in and City were awarded another free-kick that proved advantageous for a good crossing opportunity. The saying goes, "There's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow". In this instance, Reece Burke found himself at the receiving end of the free-kick to equalise for City.

City could well have had a second goal minutes later. Gavin Whyte with a great run down the left hand side, his low cross was intercepted by the Peterborough defence before reaching Keane Lewis-Potter. Matt Ingram was called into action again in the thirty fourth minute, as he was able to make an excellent save from Frankie Kent's rasping shot on goal. City were then then able to withstand some serious pressure after a succession of corners from the host's. City were awarded another free-kick in the 39th minute, George Honeyman's effort was initially cleared only for Mallik Wilks to then try and bundle his way through only for the referee to blow for a Peterborough free-kick. 42 minute's in and a potentially game changing moment, that saw Peterborough's Ethan Hamilton recieve a red card for a second bookable offence. City had a chance to put themselves ahead moment's before half time as Lewie Coyle played in George Honeyman whom sliced his effort wide. The same could have said for Peterborough, they should have been leading at the break as a longe-range free kick frim Joe Ward hit the post and Jonson Clarke-Harris fired the rebound over the bar. What a let off. HT: Peterborough 1-1 City There was a big second half to come for City in this first versus second encounter. Suffice to say, it couldn't have started any sweeter, when in the 49th minute, City took the lead through a well worked attacking move resulting in Keane Lewis-Potter hammering the ball home.

As the game reached the hour mark, City were awarded a penaly after George Honeyman was brought down in the box. Mallik Wilks cooly coverted the resulting spot-kick, firing City into a 3-1 lead. Change was afoot for the Tiger's in the sixty seventh minute, as Grant McCann made his first substitution of the night. Gavin Whyte paved the way for Tom Eaves. An opportunity to perhaps futher the pressure on the Peterborough defence. Peterbrough enjoyed a good spell of pressure in the later stages of the second half. The Tigers stood firm and held off any advance from the oncoming Peterborough attack. City had an opportunity to make it four in the 80th minute, a George Honeyman free-kick ultimately found it's way to Keane Lewis-Potter whom blazed his effort over. The remaining minutes of the second half were managed particularly well on City's part, the only moments of note were a second substitution that saw, James Scott enter play inplace of Keane Lewis-Potter. And an Eaves effort from range that was unable to trouble Christy Pym in the Peterborough goal. City remain top of the Skybet League One table, three points clear of second placed Peterborough United and four points clear of third placed Luncoln City whom were only able to manage a 1-1 draw away to Ipswich Town.
